YES!!! This came together so, so well and I cannot stress enough how fun it has been to play GG games, natively, but on a TV and with a proper controller! Finally, I can knock out a game and Lady Laci can cheer me on without hovering over my shoulder and us fighting to angle the screen to see properly. lol
I really hope you get to try some alternate connection options as I am curious to see how they pan out–on our end though, these have been perfect–especially with having a nicer old CRT that I can plug right into.
Ooof–that smell–I can only imagine; I don't WANT to imagine though. HA!
Really enjoying the mount too–it works so well and actually looks great having the Game Gear on display with the consoles too!
Being able to play these games on a TV really shows off how impressive they actually look too. It often seems to be the case with many handhelds that the console screen itself does no justice to the actually quality of the game visuals.
Thanks again so much for doing this and working with us and giving us a great new way to play such an underrated system!
I had a Game Gear with a TV tuner and a rechargeable battery pack when I was a kid I remember feeling like such a boss walking through the store watching PBS while buying cheap 2 Liters of soda and Pringles
Could use a TV Tuner
Why would you want anything out other than RGB?
Lol Ethan Suplee was in that commercial.
The Sega Nomad is essentially the Nintendo Switch, as well.
I miss the 90s. Back when game developers cared.
Omg rocker, you've gotten pretty big!
The Sega nomad basically was too
Which is also very cool: with the GG everdrive you can play all the master system roms on your game gear!!!
I succesfully did a recap and the McWill mod, worth every penny. The screen pins are so tiny, you almost need a microscope! But it's doable….great to see there more options/ mod kits….i have a second one in the pipeline, recapped…only to install MsWills and ready for even gear-to-gear action!
Awesome vid I had 2 game gears laying around for a longtime but never got around to fixing them seamed like to much work for me so I sold them last year
If the game gear was a home console we would be trying to make it a portable 😂…. and skilled people like these guys could..great video
the ultimate Sega Game Gear has
New high-quality Caps Nichicon, Panasonic
New Screen MCWILL sells them
Video out mod RGB or VGA the MCWILL kit includes VGA and you can use the headphone jack for sound
Controller Port mod from Pxlmod technologies
Internal Rechargeable Battery mod using parts from China 6000mah https://www.reddit.com/r/game_gear/comments/d9dp4g/mcwill_screen_mod_3000mah_rechargeable_lipo/
The only downside is no FM Sound mod. It is a Master System afterall and you can play SMS games with an adaptor
The screen replacement with video out would be a cool mod for the Switch Lite to give it the ability to switch.
You have a Framemeister but not an OSSC? Sell the overpriced and underwhelming Rapemesiter and get an OSSC.
Awesome
What's the name of the video out board you used and where do you get it from?
Hey could you link me to the controller and RGB adapter board yoi put in? I tried Google searching the store and the part with no luck. I am very interested in this Mod, please and thank you!!!
You should be able to pretty easily scale the image with your Framemeister to make the image actual full screen. Kinda surprised that you didn't do that for the vid here.
Nice work! I just happened to order the Etim kit fairly recently. What I would REALLY love to see is a 3D printed case that you could swap the Game Gear's internals into to create an actual console looking case for the unit, for a TRUE consolized experience! That would be DOPE of someone could design such a thing! It really wouldn't need to be that fancy or anything, just something to hold the components and a spot for the ports and the cart to slide in. Any chance that you'll do something like that in the future?
Don't whiz on the electric fence!

Algorithm brought me here, very glad it did; great look into the Game Gear for someone who grew up on Nintendo!
Gamboy, Atari, Sega.
Shoddy wiring and hot glue? Im calling Voultar
Man I loved my Game Gear…it went out the same way it came in to this world…going out the window of a school bus going 60…at least I assume that's how consels are born…
@Voultar 2.0
Love this video! Great job! Keep it up! I have my original game gear blue version, it still works but needs recapped its getting dark on screen..
I didn't even know much about the game gear but I still found it really interesting!
Great video as always! Loves the tinny bit of movie you put in there, it was a nice addition and made my laugh 😁
What an excellent collab! My Retro Refresh bro and sis and a sweet new channel I've been introduced!
Really enjoyed everything about this video from the editing to the amazing mid skills!
Carbon fiber pen? I have a fiberglass scratch pen that I use for cleaning pads but I haven't heard of this thing. Also great work! OH and on the GC light rings. The wires keep breaking at the solder joints. This last time I sanded away some of the dust cap on the stick (the round part at the bottom of the plastic stick cover thing) so hopefully it wont rub on there but I was curious if you had this problem and if there was a was to fix this on future versions.
So what are the advantages of using this vs a emulator? 🙂
A working GameGear, you say?
looks towards file cabinet
…pretty sure it still does… along with the broken (power port) SNES
have you got links to each of these mods
Hot gaming madness🔥 Good collaboration my friend. I cant imagine how long this took you to produce with all the elements involved😮 Great effort man that printed stand is awesome! May have to pick up a game gear soon didnt know this mod even exhisted. Cant wait for the next one man.
So, a few things. 1) Don’t forget me when you’re famous. 2) Do You Nerd are the must-watch YouTube power couple of the decade and 3) I love EVERYTHING about this. I have found SIX different Game Gears in my hunting days. And they’re always either missing sound or a working screen. I would love to have one of these made.
Wow!!! DYN great idea for a mod…. And you smashed it out the park… You got skills man!… Great video
